Amboy Elementary School

Summary:

Amboy Elementary School is a public elementary school in North Little Rock, Arkansas, serving 482 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the North Little Rock School District, which is ranked 192 out of 252 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Amboy Elementary School consistently performs below the district and state averages in academic assessments, with only 20.9% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 23.8% in the district and 33.8% statewide. The school also struggles in Math (19.5% vs. 22.7% vs. 36.4%) and Science (19.5% vs. 22.9% vs. 35.6%). This low academic performance is likely due to the school's high poverty level, as indicated by its 100% free and reduced lunch rate, as well as its higher student-teacher ratio of 18.4. When compared to nearby schools like Crestwood Elementary and Lakewood Elementary, which are also in the North Little Rock School District, Amboy Elementary consistently performs worse academically.

Despite the school's higher spending of $11,954 per student, which is more than some nearby schools, Amboy Elementary's academic performance has remained consistently low, with a statewide ranking ranging from 412th to 429th out of 488-497 Arkansas elementary schools over the past 10 years, and a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The North Little Rock School District should consider implementing targeted interventions, such as increasing funding, reducing class sizes, and providing more resources and professional development for teachers, to address the challenges faced by Amboy Elementary and improve the academic outcomes for its students.

Open Quote The staff is very unprofessional and inexperienced. Everything they do is unorganized, its like they just think of things to do without putting any real thought into them. This is a new nice looking school but the staff is very poor. Not all staff but majority of them are there just to collect a check it seems. If you have another school that your child can attend, I would suggest you go to a different school because the staff including the current principal do not seem to take a lot of things serious concerning the children. They are probably OK as people but poor doing their job when it comes to these children. BEWARE of this school and the North Little Rock School district Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
