Forest Park Elementary School

Summary:

Forest Park Elementary School is a high-performing public elementary school in Little Rock, Arkansas, serving 379 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Little Rock School District.

Forest Park Elementary has consistently been one of the top-performing elementary schools in Arkansas, ranking in the top 10 for several years and maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school significantly outperforms the Little Rock School District and the state of Arkansas in all subject areas, with 75.9% of students proficient or better in Mathematics compared to 23.4% for the district and 36.4% for the state. Forest Park also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 15.7 to 18.9 students per teacher, and a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher socioeconomic status of the student population.

Nearby schools, such as Brady Elementary, McDermott Elementary, and Stephens Elementary, have significantly lower academic performance compared to Forest Park Elementary, which may be due to the higher rates of poverty and lower socioeconomic status of their student populations. However, Forest Heights STEM Academy, located very close to Forest Park, is also a high-performing school, suggesting that the Little Rock School District has pockets of excellence despite the district's overall struggles.

Open Quote I'm sure there are great teachers here, but we happened to have one who was rude at our very first meeting, and this subsequently devolved into twisting words and being misleading to parents. Believe the way she instilled discipline was through fear and humiliation. As a parent and teacher, I strongly disagree with this approach, especially in Kindergarten. For example, she would literally throw some kid’s end of the day files on the floor, but hand them nicely to others. Or she would yell at kids for things like using too much glue. Such a lazy way of teaching. Moreover, she would ignore some parents to the point of turning their back on them and gossiping/lying to other parents and teachers. Terrible kind of example to set for young kids and got to the point of feeling bad every day that I had to drop off my kid there, and worrying about their safety. In summary: an emotionally unstable person on a power trip has no business whatsoever being around young children, let alone teaching them without supervision. I felt so strongly about this that our family moved to another school district so my younger children wouldn’t have the misfortune of being around that teacher. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
