Open Quote My son has not enjoyed or liked going to school until he started attending Vandergriff. He started at Vandergriff in the middle of the 2nd grade. He has some special emotional and mental needs, and the school has been absolutely wonderful in listening to and working with us. He has grown and matured remarkably - I believe as a result of their attitudes and willingness to serve the STUDENT's needs. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. They have a lot of school spirit, and offer a variety of programs. The only complaints I have are their recording of absent and tardiness, and policy of not giving out homework before it is assigned. Examples: If I bring my son in late due to a doctor appt, he is marked as tardy - as opposed to, if I pull him out of school for an appt, nothing is recorded. If I know he will miss a day or so, they will not give us the work ahead of time to work on - we must wait until he returns to school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
