Open Quote Our children have attended Riverhill for the past four years, and we truly can not say enough about our experience. Each and every teacher and staff member honestly do go above and beyond to ensure that their students are learning and growing in every way imaginable. Perhaps the best thing that Riverhill has going, is the sense of community. The teachers, students and parents work together at every turn to give these kids the support that they need to learn and grow. While a lot of private schools have serious issues with cliques among the kids (and sadly the parents), we have never seen this be a problem at Riverhill. There are kids who come from affluent families, sitting next to kids on scholarships and you really wouldn't have any idea which was which if you observed the classes for a day. Also, with such small classes, the teachers have the opportunity to use "outside the box" teaching methods to reinforce new ideas and make learning exciting for the kids. Overall, we are extremely pleased with Riverhill and our kids are happy and excited about learning. If you have any questions about the school, come visit for a day and see for yourself. It's a very special place! Close Quote

Open Quote Riverhill is a phenomenal school both in terms of it's academic excellence and its nurturing, loving environment which develops students into service-oriented student leaders. As a graduate of an Ivy League school with a school-aged daughter, I had thoroughly researched top schools in California and Mississippi before I returned to my native Florence. I was astonished to find a school of this caliber in such a small town. Riverhill by far surpasses those schools, several of which were ranked among the best in the nation. The loving, caring, unpretentious, family-like environment combined with its academic rigor makes Riverhill a school that is perhaps unparalled anywhere else in the United States. Close Quote

Open Quote January 14, 2013
I have taught preschool, kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade, junior high, high school, and special education. I was the Director of a pre-school . I now teach at the university level in the Elementary /Preschool Education Department and in the Psychology Department.
I have known many schools, and know what quality education really is. Before my Grandson entered school, we thoroughly explored what was available. Riverhill School in Florence Alabama was the obvious choice.
My Grandson is now in first grade. Preschool, kindergarten, and first grade have been wonderful experiences. The Principal, teachers, and staff as well as the curriculum are the best I’ve ever seen.
As a matter of fact I often use Riverhill as an example in my Educational Psychology class.

Providing my Grandson with the best education possible in a safe, loving, diverse, and creative environment is a priority for our family. Riverhill exemplifies what all schools should be. We are so satisfied and my Grandson loves school. It’s a joy to see him so excited about learning.

Open Quote This year at Riverhill is the second one for my granddaughter. She is currently in K-5. My daughter researched schools when she lived in both California and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and she says, "Riverhill exceeds them all." I believe her.

My granddaughter learned about googleplex, Pluto not being a planet any more, and even did science experiments in K-4. Further, the school nurtures each child and works toward each child's best potential. Attention is individual and group, with emphasis on academic excellence and personal growth and service. Winners in upper grades include first place awards at state levels. Any parents in this area who desire for their child to excel in academics, in leadership, and in servce, need to give very strong consideration to the best school I have encountered in many years. I am a retired teacher with over 30 years of experience, including overseas teaching. Close Quote

Open Quote Riverhill school is the best kept secret in the Shoals Area! The children experience so many incredible and unique things during their time at Riverhill. Every child has a different personality and unique learning style. The teachers at Riverhill understand this and do a wonderful job of allowing each child to grow, excel and foster confidence in each child. My children love going to school and I leave each morning with the confidence that my children are not only learning an advanced curriculum, but being loved at the same time! It is truly the way school is supposed to be! Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
