Sparkman High School

Summary:

Sparkman High School is a public high school located in Harvest, Alabama, serving grades 10-12 with a total enrollment of 1,738 students. The school is part of the Madison County School District, which is ranked 32 out of 137 districts in Alabama and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Sparkman High School has a relatively diverse student population, with a racial makeup that is more diverse compared to some nearby schools like Hazel Green High School and James Clemens High School. The school has consistently ranked in the top 20% of Alabama high schools over the past several years, with a current ranking of 79 out of 378 schools and a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, the school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with the school ranking highly for Native American and Hispanic students but lower for Asian students and English Language Learners.

While Sparkman High School has maintained its 4-star rating, its statewide ranking has declined over time, suggesting that its performance may be improving at a slower rate compared to other high-performing schools in the Madison County and Madison City school districts. The school also faces challenges in addressing achievement gaps among different racial subgroups and may need to explore strategies to improve its overall academic performance, particularly in Mathematics, to keep pace with the highly-ranked schools in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Sparkman is such an awesome school, I love it there! I'm a part of the Medical Academy and it has opened my eyes to the world of health care, I know for sure that there is *nothing* else I'd rather do with the rest of my life. The band, choir, theater, journalism, JROTC, and many many programs make it a fantastic place to go to school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
