Moundville Elementary School

Summary:

Moundville Elementary School is a public elementary school serving approximately 590 students in grades PK-5 in Moundville, Alabama, which is part of the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County school districts.

While Moundville Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state in academic measures like proficiency in Mathematics, Science, and English Language Arts, the school's performance has declined in recent years, with a drop in Mathematics proficiency from 42.53% in 3rd grade in 2022-2023 to 34.02% in 2023-2024. Notably, the school's African American students outperform their peers in the district and state, ranking 187 out of 420 Alabama elementary schools for this subgroup in 2023-2024. However, the school's White students and students of low socioeconomic status rank lower, at 316 and 384 out of their respective statewide subgroups, indicating a need for targeted interventions.

Compared to nearby schools, Moundville Elementary generally performs better academically than the Hale County district and the state, but lags behind the exceptional Maxwell Elementary School in the Tuscaloosa County district. Additionally, Moundville Elementary faces socioeconomic challenges, with a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which may impact student learning and achievement. The school's leadership and community will need to explore effective strategies and additional resources to address these areas of concern and ensure the success of all its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Most teachers are non welcoming, the school itself looks like an institution instead of an elementary school, No color. Our 1st day the principle didnt even cone out to meet us and when introduced to the teacher as hete is the new student all she said was ok. She didn't introduce herself or even acknowledge my child. Learning can be fun nothing about this school has been fun with the exception of a few very few teachers. Close Quote

Open Quote Moundville Elementary School is an excellent school. My children attend school there and I have been very pleased with the curriculum, teachers, and administration. The school provides us with the small school atmosphere and individualized attention we were looking for. Keep up the good work! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
