Kincaid Elementary

Summary:

Kincaid Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Anchorage, Alaska, serving 466 students in grades PK-6. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with exceptional academic performance that exceeds the Anchorage School District and state averages across various subjects and grade levels.

Kincaid Elementary's diverse student population, with a relatively even distribution across different racial groups, is a notable strength. This diversity is higher than some of the nearby schools, such as Bayshore Elementary and Turnagain Elementary, which have a larger percentage of White students. Additionally, Kincaid Elementary maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.4 to 16.9 over the past few years, which is lower than the nearby schools and suggests a more personalized learning environment.

When compared to other schools in the area, Kincaid Elementary stands out for its consistent high performance on standardized tests, with significantly higher percentages of students proficient or better in core subjects like English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. While schools like Aquarian Charter School and Bayshore Elementary also demonstrate strong academic performance, Kincaid maintains a consistent edge over the majority of the nearby schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote stagnation and politics limits the schools ability to positively meet the needs of students who are outside the norm. Although they have a good intensive needs special Ed program, , students are not good for students with milder issues. For example, I had a child with anxiety and emotional issues. It affected her performance in school, but but, did not affect others. Her teacher told me she was the only student he had hoped would not be in his class the prior year. He never made a effort to reach out to us to brainstorm ways to help her. He even took time out of the school day to lecture me on proper parenting, while I was trying to attend to the needs of m y ADHD special Ed child. I am thrilled robe able to say that she is now an honor student In high school. The politics/power struggle between parents, teachers and princal also compromise the school.

They seem to value test scores over. Quality and compassion. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
